Reserves Land in Paengaroa
In 2016 the Reserves Sub Committee was formed to investigate the use of council owned land for the use of the community. There are three reserves in the area, Paengaroa Domain Reserve, Conway Road Reserve and Pokopoko Stream Reserve.
CONWAY ROAD RESERVE Conway Road Reserve consists of an area of 1.2 hectares and has been the focus of the Reserves Sub Committee in recent months. Plans were submitted to council for approval in 2018 after much consultation with the Paengaroa community and Western Bay of Plenty Council. Plan V4 has now been approved and development of the land will be carried out in 2019 starting with clearing and levelling of the land. Next a post and rail fence will be erected with the help of donations from Comvita New Zealand Ltd, Eastpack Ltd and C & S Management Services Ltd. Finally grass will be sown and trees planted. This will be stage one of the plan with ongoing fundraising and development taking place over the next couple of years. Eventually the community will see a playground and skate park area for under 8 years of age, BBQs, tables and seating in a park setting for families, a fenced area for exercising dogs and a toilet block and car parking area along Hall Road. Update: from Minutes meeting 18 MAY 2021. Conway Road Reserve: Budget awaiting approval. A lot of discussion of priority / order of projects (toilets, playground etc). Discussed having community meeting with WBOPDC at Conway Reserve to talk through plan (sausage sizzle, voting poll). Caroline and Chris to meet with WBOPDC and clarify plans and priorities for Conway Reserve. Suggestion of a Market Day on Conway Reserve (Jane to speak to Paengaroa Kindergarten to see if want to run the event). The Western Bay Council plan for Conway Road Reserve can be seen here, or visit the WBOP District Council website. It's called "Decision Story Conway Road Reserve " . Update 12th December 2021: Power and water has been trenched. Concrete pads for Barbeque and table are boxed waiting for concrete. Barbeque has arrived. Hoping to have connected for Christmas. Tree areas have been mulched thanks to Warner. Conway Road Reserve is progressing. Four out of six large Oak trees have been planted recently. This is in addition to trees planted last year that are growing well. PowerCo is to install a new transformer. WBOPDC is contributing $4,000 towards supplying power to Conway Road Reserve next month. They are looking to install a BBQ by Christmas. This is in addition to the table and chair set by PCA being supplied by Mens Shed Te Puke. Currently looking for donations for concreting in the table and chair set. 1st December 2022. It's being dug up. Here's photos. Advise what's going on: PAENGAROA DOMAIN RESERVE The Domain Reserve is one of the largest public reserves in the district and home to Eastern Districts Rugby and Sports Club. Eastern Districts was established in 1961 and has played a significant part in both Paengaroa and wider community. The clubrooms are a friendly and welcoming place to relax and enjoy the camaraderie of others and new members are always welcome. Currently Western Bay of Plenty Council are working with Eastern Districts Rugby and Sports Club to move and upgrade the children's playground. After a meeting in June 2019, it was decided to move the playground 30 metres from the original spot towards the clubrooms, moving it away from the main highway. It will have seating and will be much larger and designed in a way to keep the children in that area. It has also been discussed to build a skate park for the older children on land currently used for grazing. At this point there are no plans in place. The New Zealand company that have completed skateboard parks for councils in New Zealand is Premium Skate Designs - Jason Parkes. POKOPOKO STREAM RESERVE This reserve is currently zoned as a roading reserve. After consultation with the community, plans were drafted and submitted to council. The intention of this reserve was to plant in native trees and include walking/biking tracks, a night garden and ampitheatre, a picnic area with tables and chairs, a memorial garden and wetland area. The intention is to involve schools and community groups to plant and develop the space making it their own. This project is currently on hold as the reserve is zoned as roading reserve. |
That will be the concrete path that is winding around the reserve. Goes from the two entrances to the barbecue area...
